If you ask Google “How can I get more clients”, it will share 1,0320,539 solutions with you. Now even if you took just ONE SECOND to go through each of these results, you would waste nearly 120 days.
And let’s be honest – you don’t have time for that!
You’re busy running your business, marketing your services, replying to emails, going through your financials and probably a hundred other things a solopreneur must do to keep their business moving.
Unfortunately, your business also depends on one very important thing: clients.
Ideally – paying clients.
And while we all dream to have a consistent flow of clients coming our way, the current doesn’t also flow our way. So what do you do then?
In this post, we’re sharing with you 6 proven strategies you can focus on to help you land your next (or perhaps even your first!) paying client.
1. POST ABOUT YOUR WORK ON YOUR PERSONAL SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNTS
This may come as a surprise, but many starting business owners forget to leverage their current network when searching for clients. Big mistake!
There’s a high chance that people in your current social circle may need your help or know someone who may require your services. So don’t forget to share your work on your personal accounts too or reach out directly to family and friends to see if they need your help.
2. ENGAGE AND SHARE VALUE IN FACEBOOK GROUPS
Facebook groups are a gold mine for new clients! Find groups that your target audience is part of and start building relationships and authority in there by engaging, helping and providing value on your industry topics.
You can use the “Search” function in the Facebook group to find posts that include your industry keywords. For example, if you’re a designer, you can search for posts that include “brand”, “logo”, “website”, “packaging”, “design”, etc.
You may be wondering – how will this strategy bring me new clients? By being helpful and providing value, you’re demonstrating your expertise, building relationships and showcasing your knowledge. As a result, you’re building trust and therefore people are more likely to recommend you or contact you for extra help.
3. RUN FREE MINI AUDITS OF YOUR SERVICE ON SOCIAL MEDIA
Mini audits are another great way to showcase your expertise and give your audience a little taste of what they could expect when they work with you. You could begin a bi-weekly series where you provide mini-audit for your audience live on Instagram or on your Facebook group/page. Once your audience sees the value you can bring, you can then upgrade them to a full (paid) package!
Here are some mini audit ideas for various industries:
- Brand Design: mini audit of your color palette
- Web Design: mini audit of your homepage
- Social Media: mini audit of the last 6 posts on your feed
- PR: mini audit of your media pitch
- Business Coaching: mini audit of your quarterly business plan
4. SET UP A REFERRAL SYSTEM FOR YOUR PAST CLIENTS
If you have happy clients, then you have a sales team on your hands, friend! Word of mouth is one of the most powerful marketing strategies that is often forgotten about, so if you don’t yet have a referral system in place for your business – it’s time to change that!
At the end of your project, before you part ways, introduce your client to your Referral Program. This could be as simple as “hey, I’d love it you could recommend me to your friends & colleagues”, or you could have a reward system in place to make the program even more enticing.
Some of the most popular referral rewards are:
- Refer a client and receive $XXX for you and your friend;
- Refer a client and get $XXX credit for your next project with us
By the way, you don’t need to wait until your next client to benefit from a referral system. Simply email your favourite past clients and tell them about the new referral program you put in place in your business – we’re sure they’d be more than happy to help you find your next client after the amazing work you’ve done for them!
5. CONTRIBUTE AS A GUEST ON PODCASTS OR BLOGS
Sharing your value on podcasts, blogs, online conferences etc. is a great way to amplify your voice, grow your exposure, and reach out to a new audience that may have never heard of you before.
Dedicate some time to research what podcasts, blogs, and online conferences/events your target audience listens to/reads/attends and think about how you could provide value and demonstrate your expertise. Remember, these speaking opportunities are not about selling your services but about providing value, showcasing your expertise and attracting new potential fans that can then be turned into paying clients.
6. RUN A FREE CHALLENGE FOR YOUR AUDIENCE
Organise a free challenge over a number of days for your target audience where each day you provide some free, actionable tips and advice into their inbox. At the end of the challenge, you can pitch them your services or a special offer.
As you can see, the above strategies are not your typical “sign up to Upwork or find gigs on Fiverr”. At lolab, we believe in long-term strategies that position you as an expert and will help you scale with ease and confidence.
